20 Lessons I have learnt from the Blogosphere Part 1

  1. Sometimes you (I) need to take a chill pill.
  2. Sometimes when no matter how you explain, the other party cannot seem to understand what on earth you are talking about, take a chill pill.
  3. You can’t make everyone like you.
  4. You learn things you might not have known by keeping an open mind during a discussion.
  5. If you find that the discussion is going no where but downhill, remember point 3, and then proceed to point 1.
  6. What’s humorous to you might be misleading to someone else. Once again, point 3.
  7. Jealousy is ugly.
  8. Envy is uglier.
  9. Pride is the ugliest.
  10. Be accountable only to God, yourself, your readers and your conscience.
  11. It’s your blog. Not his blog, not her blog but YOUR blog.
  12. Point 3 again.
  13. Don’t be affected by the 1% of naysayers but focus on the 99% of readers who faithfully click on your blog everyday. You owe it to them to not waste time on people who don’t count.
  14. Statistics speaks louder than anything else.
  15. Readers know the difference between humour and hoodwinking.
  16. You are the pilot of your plane.
  17. Don’t like a blog, don’t click on it/ activate ignore button. You don’t see me pulling the self righteous plug because no one died and made me the Overlord of the Blogosphere. I finally understand how Wendy of Xiaxue feels. What is it about people who claim to hate her blog but repeatedly return to her blog on a long term basis?! A case of morbid attraction? Don’t like it, don’t click! Such a simple thing and people don’t get  it.
  18. Similarly there is no other Overlord of the Blogosphere that I know of..with the exception of perhaps Mr Brown.. any other imposers should be promptly ignored. See point 13.
  19. Will you be ashamed if your parents/ kids/ boss/ colleagues read your blog? Well, I will not.
  20. Have your own code of integrity. For me, I will not post anything that I am not sure about (eg. the link to Rowena Chen), hard porn (which does not include art of the naked body; uptight people will disagree again upon which please see point 10) nor cheap sensational postings about my sex life. Of course, there are some very well written sex blogs out there but that is not for me. Again I don’t judge because: see point 17.
