CNY getaway

15 February 2008 4 Comments

We went away during the CNY for a short weekend trip to KL, thus missing the potluck get-together at Ratna’s place on the 9th. So many places to go, so little time! LOL.

I promised the children that I’d bring them to Sunway Lagoon again, as seeing that it drizzled on our parade during the last trip in December. So KL it was to be. This trip also was very special as it was the first time I ever travelled with a girlfriend (told ya I was a loner! :P) and what’s more with her son and hubby in tow too.. Joshie’s a superbly well behaved and easy baby to hit the road with, and my girls adore him to pieces. I have to be admonished to the hilt for my lack of photo taking responsibility as I totally forgot to take pictures of the girls with joshie and of our lok lok pigout at Jalan Alor! Armed with the nifty little Canon Big bought for me but always forgetting to use it when need be. Dreadful.

The girls at the hotel

Motion simulator ride at Bintang that we all gamely tried, except the men who took care of the boy. LOL.

At Zang Toi cafe in Pavillion. Am drawn to fashion influences everywhere..

Visual merchandising props in Zang Toi cafe

In Juicy Couture boutique. They even had apparel for little girls. Very nice store layout and visual merchandising.

The girls posing with the “lingerie model” LOL. Sidenote: thankfully my girls are still innocent and child like. I look at some little girls (some as young as Gean!) posing in the most vixenish poses and I shudder in horror. I wonder what on earth their parents must be thinking.

SUNWAY PICS

Big and Ger on the pirate ship ride in Sunway. It goes on a 360 degree rotation (whee!) and since Gean couldn’t play due to height restriction, I stayed on land with her. Poor baby.

    In queue for ferris wheel.

On the whole I did not buy anything from KL. The prices for labels like Nine West, Mango and Zara etc. were higher than in Singapore. I did go to Jaspal, which is not available in SIngapore but did not find anything appealing from this season. We also went to Petaling for food (glorious dai pai tong food!!) and had fun walking around and checking out the counterfeit goods on display. The difference is really quite obvious and I wonder why people would spend money on fakes and try to pass them off as the real McCoy. There is a reason why designer goods cost the way they do, think very experienced artisans hand stitching the Birkin, quality of the leathers, exclusivity (LV never ever has sample sales of any sort. They destroy all samples and merchandise not up to scratch), research etc. If designer goods are not within your spending power, surely there are many affordable, tasteful and well made equivalents from the high street labels? I went to Nine West to check out their shoes this season and I was floored by the latest bag collection, influenced by the graduating hue made so popular by Prada. Price? About RM400. Seriously, I would much rather spend $200 odd on the Nine West bag than to spend $200 odd on a fake Prada.

But that’s just me being me of course. :)

Lillian: Yes, you know what I mean. Even Charles and Keith are churning out bags with strong designer influences within a good price range. I still hate their shoes though. :P

    TR: Heh.
