Muffin Moments

February 15th, 2008 by Xtralicious

Our first cat, Muffin, who was adopted from Barffie

She only folded her paws so daintily after Chloé joined the family. I think some of the kuniang-ness rubbed off on her. :P

Chloe

October 5th, 2007 by Xtralicious

The cat, not the brand. :)

I just adopted a kitten on Wednesday. When I carried her for the first time, she clung onto me, licked my hand and started purring so violently that the caretaker can hear the vibrations. I am not kidding you.

So there was definitely chemistry and I am seldom wrong about such things. *looks at Big* :P

The question is, how do we assimilate her into our family? Will Muffin the muffinator accept her?

I am pleased to say that I am proud of my cats. We brought Chloe into the house in the carrier and although Muffin was wary and her tail got all fluffed up, she sniffed at Chloe curiously and there was no animosity on her part at all. If anything, she was more curious than hostile. Chloe on the other hand, hissed at Muffin whenever Muffin wanted to go near and sniff her. After a while, Muffin, as if having learned how to hiss from Chloe, also started to hiss at Chloe. But there was no fighting at all, even though Muffin loved to go near Chloe. Muffin would be rather protective of Chloe even though they still hiss at each other every now and then. I am quite proud of her.

I also found out from comparison that Muffin has much softer fur but does not like to be carried or cuddled for long. Chloe on the other hand, likes to be held and cuddled. We suspect that Chloe was an abandoned house cat as she is so used to being carried. She is also very timid, and we suspect that it might be because she was abused or attacked after her abandonment.

Damn the pet owners who buy pets at a whim, then get rid of them equally quickly when the novelty wears off!

Foster mum picked Chloe up and put her up at a pet shelter as she already has six kittens at home, and cannot handle more. She gave her the name Chloe and as she responds to her name, we decided to stick with it. She told us that Chloe could be a show cat if her ear was not clipped due to the sterilization, and asked us if we mind. Well, it’s not even an issue to us really, unlike some pet owners that we heard of who must have pedigree or certified pets. Usually, people as anal as that are also very irritating, boring and uptight in many other ways. Thank God our pet owner friends are nothing like that. Oh, and I was also shocked to learn that some pet owners who rave about advocate adopting strays and abandoned animals in pet forums? Their own pets are pedigrees from breeders. **ROLLS EYES**

*cough* hypocites *cough*

To these people, I say:

Daaarlink,

More updates and pictures of Chloe coming up! Muffin will continue to have her Muffin Crumbs. :)

Muffin Crumbs

September 13th, 2007 by Xtralicious

The little minx enjoying her new cushion. Atas can… :)

We placed the cushion in front of her and she simply sauntered up to it and rested her head on it.

Muffin crumbs

July 14th, 2007 by Xtralicious

Muffin has integrated into our family very comfortably. Geanyne carries her around the house like she’s a little rag doll and Muffin lets her.

Germaine has to play with her everyday. Whenever we come back from work, she will come to the door as if welcoming us home, then curl around our legs purring.

She sleeps anywhere and everywhere and anyhow.

such a little slut. tsk tsk tsk

Muffin crumbs

June 21st, 2007 by Xtralicious

Last week when I steamed cod steak for the children, I also set aside some for Muffin. I wasn’t sure if she would like it but judging from the empty dish, she did. :)

Muffin has settled in quite nicely in our little family. She’s very obedient and affectionate. Normally she sleeps outside in the hall on the sofa or on the chairs in the kitchen. Her favourite spot though, is on our soft fluffy quilt on our bed and we usually let her, except during the night, when we close the door due to the airconditioning. Sometimes, she would protest by meowing rather piteously at the closed door, and when we let her  in, she would come in and cuddle with us.

There was an accident on the first night that she came. Geanyne opened the door to go to the toilet and Muffin, being playful, dashed right for the door. Geanyne was probably caught in a sleepy state and in shock, she tried to slam the door shut. The tip of Muffin’s tail was caught and she immediately started meowing very loudly. We were jolted out of our sleep and upon discovering, quickly released her from the door. Geanyne was crying in the room, thinking that Muffin wanted to bite her. Geez, we had two little ones to comfort. Explained to Geanyne that Muffin was only being playful and she should never try to close the door in that fashion again. Thankfully, Muffin was also not fearful or hostile from that incident. She is still the trusting and affectionate little muffin that she is.

I never thought I would make a good or willing pet ow ner due to my fastidious and neat freak nature but it’s so easy to fall in love with Muffin. It also helps that she’s also a very clean kitten and very well trained in toilet habits, thanks very much to Barffie and Jeff.

She was abandoned near their house and I am glad that we could do something to help. :)
