An Eulogy from Dr Chee Soon Juan for JBJ as seen here.
**
Dear Mr Jeyaretnam,
I visited you one last time on Tuesday. I’ve never seen you so peaceful and contented.
This is such a change from all the years that we’ve been working together. I remember how bitter we felt sitting in your rented apartment at Orange Grove Road after the 1997 elections. The place has since been turned into swank, upscale serviced-apartments. We were drafting a letter to the United Nations to ask for the monitoring of future elections here.
It was …

I went to the wake for Mr JB Jeyaretnam earlier with the TOC team. While we were emotionally composed, there is no denying the sadness which stems from the loss for which Singapore is made poorer.
And so I paid my respects to this man who had fought relentlessly and without fear to the end, who fought for the good of the people.

Former opposition MP and former Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party, Mr JB Jeyaretnam, died of heart failure early Tuesday. He was 82 years old.

He was the first opposition member to win a Parliamentary seat in 15 years when he defeated the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) Pang Kim Hin and the United People’s Front’s Harbans Singh in the Anson By-Election in 1981.

There is simply no excuse for abandoning your children alone at home while you go partying. No excuse at all.

and there are parents. I thought I have seen the worst of child abuse cases in the form of neglect or violence but this … is appalling.
Why give birth to a child if you are not prepared to give him or her the best you can? And what if your “best” is hardly acceptable?
Would the child have been more “fortunate” if she was aborted from the beginning? Would this make a classic case for a pro choice argument?
The many grey shades in life. They sadden me.

I wasted some twenty minutes of my life yesterday. I had made the wrong decision of dropping by a toxic “friend’s” blog, which I had not done so for the longest time, reason being that the said blog is mostly updated with constant meaningless whining and negativity. There is a certain limit to the amount of negative energy one can stomach.
To my surprise, her recent few posts are positive to say the least.  But keeping in line with her character, the “positivity” is meant to put others down.
By insisting …

Yes I know. It is going to be launched here soon and people are waiting with baited breath and excitement. Some, I heard, have even booked their phones!
I am feeling nothing but increasing sadness and irritation (for Apple lah, not the people buying).
Very soon, everyone is going to be carrying the same phone when it is launched. I hate that (yes, very nb of me). I am using the iphone now and apart from the fact that it is a truly gorgeous gadget, I also adore it because you don’t …

I am sure everyone knows about the earthquake in Chengdu by now. Last death toll was 15,000 and counting. People are grieving, homeless, helpless. Now is certainly not the time to go into rhetorics about the China-Tibet situation. Please help if you can.
If you would like to do your bit, cheques are to be made payable to the “Singapore Red Cross Society”. Please indicate at the back of the cheque name of donor/organisation (if applicable), mailing address and contact numbers and “Red Cross China Earthquake”
Cheques should then be sent to …

Lately, I have been feeling restless and empty at turns. I twittered it as having an existential problem and desperately needing to do something meaningful. An attempt to garner various perspectives in the bar got me a few constructive and insightful responses and of course I also got the typical meaningless word waste.
DPL said, “actually in times like this, i take time off and be alone, somewhere close to Nature and observe the simpler things of life.
Be it the countryside, rural areas etc. I just reach out and talk to …
